An Experimental Study on the Diagnosis of Malignant Tumor with Radioactive Bromouracil (5-Br^(82)-Uracil)

Abstract
In attempt to visualize the location of malignant tumor, tissue uptake and distribution of 5-Br82-uracil were studied by the tumor bearing animals.
A series of mice bearing subcutaneous 8.12 day old implant of Ehrlich ascites cancer or N-F sarcoma was given 1 to 5 mg of 5-Br82-uracil through the tail vein, their tissues were dissected at various time intervals and the radioactivites were measured.
. The results indicated that tumor had the highest uptake of bromouracil at all time compared with the other normal tissues. The radioactivities of kidney and lung also showed high values in any of time intervals, while the remained tissues had low radioactivities. It has been noted that these characteristics were found more significantly since 6 hours after injection of the drug and the fact explains the longer biological half life of radioactivity in tumor compared with other healthy tissues.
The similar tendency was showed in the animals of 5 mg injection as in that of 1 mg group and those results were found in any of the tumors.
. Selective localization of radioactivity in malignant tumor indicated the possibility of visualization of malignant tumor, that is autoradiography of dissected mice showed also the highest radioactivity in tumor tissues.
